Heaven by the river
A majestic lake surrounded by massive natural walls Chouwan is a small village located in the district of Kesserwan, on the northen edge of Mount Jabal Moussa. The root “Shéwé” of the word Chouwan in Arabic “شاوي” means flat, which is the form of lake Chouwan. At 50 Km from the capital of Lebanon and at an altitude of 470-650 metres asl, Chouwan stands on the shoulder of a hill in the depth of the Adonis valley.
The village of Chouwan is very well known for its beautiful namesake lake, surrounded by massive natural walls and an evergreen landscape, due to the abundance of wild pine trees.
The Myth of Adonis, who was slain by a wild boar while hunting, is expressed by the flowering of the anemone flowers and the lake turning red every Spring, a natural phenomenon caused by soil erosion in winter.
