A day of celebration around the church of Our Lady of Deliverance
A festive evening with prayers, food, and music in an isolated village overlooking the valley
Chouwan has been a Christian village for a long time.
On the 14th of August of each year, at Chouwan, locals and visitors gather in the square in front of the church of Our Lady of Deliverance to celebrate the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The priest of the village celebrates an evening mass attended by a large number of people.
Stands are set up to serve delicious and authentic traditional food and drinks, singers and artists from the nearby villages come to perform and provide entertainment in the evening on a stage erected for this purpose.
People gather from the afternoon to make preparations until late into the night, for 2 consecutive days.
