The conversion of the old Castelvetrano-Ribera railway line has created one of the most attractive cycle paths in Sicily
From Menfi to Sciacca, twenty kilometres across the marvellous Sicilian landscape, explored on foot or by bicycle The Menfi cycle path follows the route of the old railway line linking Castelvetrano to Porto Empedocle. The path runs through the Sicilian countryside, through vineyards, olive groves and wheat fields, alternating gentle climbs with long flat stretches.
From Menfi there are two routes, covering a distance of about 20 kilometres on mostly paved roads. The first section is an easy descent of about 6 km that links the southern outskirts of the town to the fishing village of Porto Palo, with its white houses and 16th-century Saracen tower. The second route covers about 13.5 km and ends at San Marco beach, about 7 km from the historic centre and port of Sciacca: the ideal place to regenerate before visiting the town.
This greenway is the best way to discover the area at a leisurely pace, experience first hand its rhythm of life and enjoy its attractions: the river Carboj River and the Belice river mouth nature reserve, the ancient fishing village of Porto Palo, the Gurra di Mare valley and the unspoilt sea of western Sicily all await you.
