Discovering the secrets of extra-virgin olive oil
At a stone’s throw from Selinunte, in the most ancient and authentic corner of Sicily, the Olive oil Experience is a perfect opportunity for the lovers of nature and good Mediterranean cuisine Guided tours, demonstrations and tastings of typical local products, where olives – and especially the local variety called Nocellara del Belice – take pride of place. This is an area of extraordinary historical and natural interest.
The Olive oil Experience begins with a guided tour of the Centonze olive oil mill established in 1953. A walk through centuries’ old monumental olive trees and sweet-smelling citrus orchards will allow you to discover the cultivation techniques of these two regional crops, before tasting their fruits at the tasting session at the end of the tour. The absolute focus of the tour of the Centonze oil mill, however, is the extra-virgin olive oil produced there and accompanied by the famous black bread of Castelvetrano: prepare yourselves for this gourmet experience of black bread bruschettas with Trapani-style pesto, olive paste and citrus preserves.
At harvest time each year, between October and November, the experience features the added bonus of assisting in the milling process of the freshly harvested olives.
