A wonderful, ever-changing landscape. Along the SS624 main road farmland, unspoilt landscapes and traces of human activity present the rich diversity of Western Sicily
From the Tyrrhenian coast to the Mediterranean, the SS624 road runs through the island's most typical landscapes and districts About 83 kilometres separate Palermo and Sciacca along the SS624 road. Popular with motorcyclists since the 1950s, the road links the two Sicilian towns by way of a route that takes in the most unspoilt nature.
Designed as a fast-flowing road, the SS624 is the most direct route between the two towns and allows travellers to cross western Sicily from coast to coast, bypassing the towns. Starting at viale della Regione Siciliana in Palermo, the road ends several kilometres from Sciacca, passing through unparalleled natural scenery, such as the Jato valley with its vineyards and steep mountains covered in wild vegetation.
The SS624 road offers detours and stops at some of the region's best-loved locations, such as Monreale, with its UNESCO World Heritage cathedral, Piana degli Albanesi, the cradle of Arbëreshe Albanian culture on the island, and the villages of Salaparuta, Santa Margherita di Belice and Sambuca di Sicilia. A unique itinerary, ideal for those who want to travel in total freedom and discover the Sicily, through different eyes and at a different pace.
