Take part in a traditional form of oral poetry
Zajal is folk poetry using traditional Arabic verse, performed by pairs of poets facing off, pitched one against the other, in a competitive dialogue. The performance is accompanied by tambourine and “daff” rhythms and takes place at Lara Abou Mrad’s guesthouse.
The poetry is mostly about social relationships, village stories, happy and sad thoughts, describing natural landscapes, beauty....
