A handicraft workshop run by a group of women from Umm Qais
Try an original experience in contact with local crafts and culture
An experience of contact with the craftsmanship of the women of Umm Qais. Their hands gather leaves and flowers, weave threads of herbs as strong as ropes and sew sturdy and hard or slender and delicate plant strands. Materials of different colours, depending on the type of plant and the time of harvest.
This is a real experience, manual and cultural at the same time. A moment designed to foster coming together and cooperation through craft work. Weaving baskets, trivets and boxes made of locally harvested leaves. All this is possible thanks to a group of women from Umm Qais, conceived by the German University of Hamburg and coordinated with the Ministry of Tourism, to offer a special workshop at the Umm Qais Visitor Centre, a place where it will also be possible to buy local handicrafts because "when you buy a handmade object, you are not just buying an object!
You are buying hundreds of hours, experiences, frustrations, ambitions and moments of pleasure. You are buying a piece of someone else's soul and a piece of someone else's life. You're getting a piece made for you with love."
