A natural urban expression of sharing, collaboration and food
A narrow strip of land covered with a multitude of small gardens characterises the town beach of Al-Hafayer On the smooth sands of Al Hafayer beach, in the centre of Aqaba, you can walk and be delighted by a special seascape, with seagulls flying overhead and the warm waters of the gulf offering breathtaking views at sunset.
But right next to the beach, along King Hussein Street, there is also a very special presence that uniquely characterises this part of the city. These are the Al-Hafayer gardens, an original and precious demonstration of the fruitful collaboration between man and nature.
Taking advantage of the land between the city and the beach, which is still free from building development, groups of citizens tend these gardens according to natural and sustainable criteria. Anyone wandering around the beach or along King Hussein Street can easily observe, especially in the mornings and at dusk, locals watering, planting or cleaning the gardens. Their products supply a wide range of vegetables to local markets.
They are a real city scenography that, around the Arab Revolt Square and the building that houses the covered market, sensitively characterises the aesthetics of this part of central Aqaba.
