An ancient trading city
Caves reflect the identity of a number of civilizations and indicate that this was once an extensive town Beit Awwa is located nearly 20 kilometers west of Hebron. A tangible heritage in Beit Awwa is Beit Baer, which is the place where orchards and caves are located, part of which is known and present, and parts are buried. There are also remains of a Byzantine Church.
As for the food heritage, Beit Awwa is famous for Maftoul (Marmaon) which is a traditional Palestinian dish made from bulgur (durum wheat), whole wheat flour, and water (some people call it Kuskus).
