Every year Santa Margherita di Belice hosts an unmissable event for literature lovers with the world's greatest contemporary writers
Since 2003, the Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa International Literary Prize has been celebrating the works that best address the issues of peace and coexistence between peoples The Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa International Literary Prize bears the name of Santa Margherita Belice's most famous citizen, a reminder of the close bond between the writer and his town. It is also thanks to the fame of his “The Leopard” that every summer, since 2003, the Sicilian village has become a small capital of international literature with a prize awarding event attended by many great personalities of Italian and international culture.
Among the writers who have participated in and won past editions of the prize are Abraham B. Yehoshua, Tahar Ben Jelloun, Claudio Magris, Anita Desai, Edoardo Sanguineti, Amos Oz, Javier Marias, Fleur Jaeggy, Valeria Parrella, Emmanuel Carrère, Fernando Aramburu and Carlo Ginzburg, Nobel Prize winners for literature Kazuo Ishiguro, Mario Vargas Llosa and Orhan Pamuk.
