A shrine built by Abu Ubaidah bin Al-Jarrah
The Mosque, Islamic monuments, ancient tombs among olive and pine trees
The archaeological site in the town is the Place and Mosque of “Abu Ubeida Amer Iben Al Jarah” at Khirbet Jabaren, a Palestinian ruin located south of the town of Surif, in the northern Hebron governorate. It contains many Islamic monuments on the top of a mountain overlooking the area of Kharas densely planted with olive groves.
This is an archaeological site, as indicated by the abundant tombs carved in the rock, where coins dating back to the pre-Christian era were found.
Based on the stories handed down in the village from one generation to the other, the great companion Abu Ubaidah bin Al-Jarrah camped with his army here for several days before the battle of Ajnadin. He built the existing shrine, which consists of a single room 7 meters by 7, and has only one door, one window and a 4-meters-high minaret.
The shrine was endowed with lands covering an area of 30 dunums and dozens of houses, caves and ancient tombs, estimated to be more than 500 years old, in addition to some old olive and pine trees that are hundreds of years old, on its northern side.
