A great temple dedicated to the goddess Astarte and an amazing waterfall
The birth of a legend Afqa is a village located in the Jbeil District of the Mount Lebanon Governorate, about 71 km from Beirut, at an average elevation of 1,200 metres asl. It was known in ancient times as Apheca or Afeqa.
The name of the village is of Aramaic origin and which means “the flowing spring”. A great and ancient temple dedicated to the worship of Astarte (the Roman Venus) and Adonis is located there, across a majestic grotto where the river Adonis originates and flows down a beautiful waterfall, forming some amazing natural scenery.
